NDHU Language Center English Short Poem & Lyric Contest 2014

 

NDHU Language Center has been devoted to creating a lively campus for learning English and providing a variety of exciting activities to enrich the language experience of every Dong Hwa member.

 

To celebrate Dong Hwa’s 20th anniversary and 67th anniversary of former Hualien University of Education (now Hua-Shih College of Education), we are proudly presenting this special edition of English Short Poem & Lyric Contest (ESPALC)!

Ÿ   Entry Deadline: November 15, 2014 at Midnight

Ÿ   Prize Announcement: November 19, 2014 on the Language Center ESPAL page

Ÿ   Awarding Ceremony: November 21, 2014 19:00 at Lakeside Glasshouse

 

WHO CAN JOIN THE ESPALC?

The ESPALC is open to all Dong Hwa students as individuals or in groups (including Taiwanese students, international students, and exchange students), who enjoy reading, writing, or singing poems/lyrics in English.

 

WHAT ARE THE CATEGORIES?

Categories include English Short Poems or Lyrics and Video for English Poems or Original Songs.

Ÿ   English Short Poems or Lyrics: An original short poem of at least 2 lines or an original song lyrics in English

Ÿ   Video for English Poems or Original Songs:

Type A: A music video with lyrics subtitles of an original English song in any accompaniment

Type B: A music video with lyrics subtitles of an original song based on an English poem

Type C: A video of an interpretation or a development of an existing English poem, which should appears in the subtitles or soundtracks.

Type D: A video of reading out loud an existing English poem and sharing your personal interpretation.

* Entrant may submit as many poems/lyrics/videos as desired in each category.

** For Types A, B and D of the video category, entrant has to appear in the video for over 70% of time.

 

HOW TO ENTER THE ESPALC?

Ÿ   English Short Poems or Lyrics
Complete online entry form on the Language Center ESPALC page and Submit your poem/lyrics typed as a Microsoft Word file (i.e., .doc or .docx). The Language Center will confirm with the primary entrant after receiving each entry by e-mail or telephone.

Ÿ   Video for English Poems or Original Songs
Complete online entry form on the Language Center ESPALC page and upload your video on the Language Center Facebook fan page. Language Center will confirm with the primary entrant by e-mail or telephone after receiving each entry.

 

WHAT ARE THE JUDGING CRITERIA?

Ÿ   English Short Poems or Lyrics
Entries will be judged on the following criteria, Content/Theme, Form, Language, and Grammar/Mechanics.

Ÿ   Video for English Poems or Original Songs
Entries will be judged on the following criteria, Content/Theme, Creativity, Form, Production Design, and Pronunciation. In addition, entries are open for every viewer to click “Like” on Facebook. 20% of the final scores will be based on the number of “Likes” received for each entry.

 

WHAT ARE THE PRIZES?

Ÿ   English Short Poems or Lyrics

First Place: A NT$2,000 voucher with a certificate of merit

Second Place: A NT$1,500 voucher with a certificate of merit

Third Place: A NT$1,200 voucher with a certificate of merit

Honorable Mentions: Up to 3 honorable mentions and a NT$800 voucher with a certificate of merit for each

Ÿ   Video for English Poems or Original Songs

First Place: A NT$2,400 voucher with a certificate of merit

Second Place: A NT$2,000 voucher with a certificate of merit

Third Place: A NT$1,500 voucher with a certificate of merit

Honorable Mentions: Up to 3 honorable mentions and a NT$1,000 voucher with a certificate of merit for each
